Bird’s Welsh Assembly role

August 11 2009

The Chair of Co-operatives and Mutuals Wales, Alex Bird, has been appointed to a Welsh Assembly advisory group set up to advise ministers on social enterprise.

Said Mr Bird: “After over 35 years in the sector, I am delighted to be able to contribute to this important debate. Partnership is key to our approach, and Co-operatives and Mutuals Wales looks forward to playing a full and enthusiastic part in this new body.”

Mr Bird is an independent social enterprise, co-operative and charity consultant, and has worked extensively with social enterprises throughout Wales.

Until August 2005 he was Chief Executive of Innovate Trust, a charity which provides a range of services to people with disabilities. He is Chair of the Advisory Board of the recently renamed Cardiff Institute for Co-operative Studies (UWIC) and a trustee of Cardiff YMCA Housing Association.

John Goodman, Head of Policy and the Regions, Co-operatives UK, said: “I know Alex will make a strong contribution, and I am pleased the co-operative and mutual sector is to have representation on this important body.”
