Scotmid Co-operative is supporting this year’s spring clean campaign from Keep Scotland Beautiful, which runs through April and May.
The annual event, which draws tens of thousands of volunteers, was launched at Scotmid’s Tannochside store, with local environmental groups including Uddingston Pride, Brighter Bothwell and Bonnie Blantyre.
The partnership will see 12 Scotmid stores from Brechin to Dumfries serve as community hubs for the campaign, supplying Clean Up and offering guidance on how to organise a Clean Up.
Shirley MacGillivray, deputy secretary at Scotmid, said: “Achieving a cleaner Scotland will be a real team effort, which is why we’re proud that our stores will host hubs to enable our members, staff and customers to organise litter-picks in their local communities.
“Scotmid are committed to helping Keep Scotland Beautiful to achieve a cleaner and more beautiful Scotland.”
Derek Robertson, chief executive of Keep Scotland Beautiful, added: “In the years since Clean Up Scotland was launched, people across the length and breadth of Scotland have helped to remove a significant amount of litter from their local communities. We are very proud of their hard work and extremely grateful to Scotmid Co-operative for signing up to support the campaign.
“With public interest in reducing waste and litter so high, we hope that with Scotmid Co-operative’s support we can reach many more people in 2019 and encourage them to take part.”
The participating Scotmid stores are: Bishopmill, Nairn, Brechin, Kilmarnock, Bishopbriggs, Clydebank, South Queensferry, Roslin, Bonnybridge High St, Tullibody, Tannochside Uddingston and Dumfries.
