The World Council of Credit Unions (Woccu) is accepting nominations for the 2020 Young Credit Union Professionals’ (WYCUP) Scholarship.
The programme is now available to emerging credit union leaders between the ages of 18 and 40, after Woccu decided to raise the age limit for eligibility from 35.
To qualify, nominees must demonstrate leadership, personal commitment and the potential to significantly influence credit unions or financial co-operatives in or outside their country. Additionally, they must be actively involved as an employee or volunteer with a credit union or a financial co-operative and be endorsed by a credit union or organisation that is a member of Woccu. The scholarship is only available to those who have not previously held a WYCUP scholarship. The recipient will actively participate in the 2020 Credit Union Conference in Los Angeles (jointly organised with America’s Credit Union National Association, CUNA), with the support of a sponsoring credit union or credit union organisation.
“Raising the age limit by five years is a direct result of seeking to align this educational and networking program with the age limits of affiliate young professional network programs throughout the global credit union community,” said Paul Treinen, Woccu executive vice president. “We want to expand the reach and impact of WYCUP, and we believe opening the process up to more applicants in 2020 will allow that to happen.”
Each Nominee must submit a completed 2020 WYCUP Scholarship nomination form, along with a three- to five-minute video explaining why they deserve the award, by 29 May 2020. For more about the scholarship programme, visit www.wycup.org.
