Clydebank Co-op launches new website and sponsors local football team

Member-owned retail co-op Clydebank has launched a new website and announced local initiatives including the sponsorship of the local football team and support for a foodbank.

The society, established in 1881, is one of two surviving independent retail co-ops in Scotland, based in Clydebank, near Glasgow.

Launching the new website, it said: “We’re more than excited for this era. The new website will enhance the close relationship we have with our customers as well as taking us forward in the years ahead.”

It added: “We might be continually evolving but our main purpose will always be to serve the community in which we operate.

“Our community-orientated businesses that comprise of food, non-food stores, funeral homes and more are operated and supported by dedicated management and employee personnel who will always have the communities’ interests at heart.”

The society says the new website will include information on locations and opening times of food stores, details of costs and plans at its funeral business, and a section of floor space available to rent at its properties.

The society also announced its continued sponsorship of Clydebank FC.

“We care for the local community and everything important to Clydebank,” it said. “That’s why for the coming season we will again be the main sponsor for Clydebank FC. We wish them the best of luck in their up and coming League Cup games.”

The society’s new website will also include updates on the team’s performance.

Announcing its support for the local foodbank, the society added: “Clydebank Co-operative prides itself on being a pillar of the community. In our near 130-year history, we’ve been a community focused business, supporting the people of Clydebank and beyond.

“We take pride on the service and support we offer that’s why we are heavily involved in the local food bank initiative that takes place in Clydebank.”

The co-op supports the charity by directly donated food from its stores; collecting donations from customers; and donating items from partners and suppliers.

“We’re a not just a business, we’re a family and that’s why we will put the community first no matter what,” the society said.

Clydebank operates six food stores, its Sylvania Way non-food store, and a funeral directors, alongside a portfolio of rental property.
