Chelmsford Star Co-operative has been recognised in the national Business Charity Awards.
The society, which operates food shops, travel agents, funeral homes and the two Quadrant stores in mid-Essex, has been shortlisted in the Community Impact category, recognising the good work it does across the region.
Head of membership and marketing, Kevin Bennett, said: “Being a relatively small Essex-based co-op, it is extremely rewarding to be recognised for what we’re achieving on a national level.
“My colleagues, our members and volunteers all work extremely hard to support local charitable events fund-raise, or assist local community groups however we can.”
The society recently reported that 33p in every £1 spent in their stores impacted the Essex economy in some way – through community donations; support for local food and drink producers; charitable fundraising; and the dividend for members.
The national Business Charity Awards, created by the Third Sector, champions UK businesses that have close partnerships with charities or volunteers and to whom ‘social responsibility’ is more than just a box to be ticked.
