Scotmid wins award for favourite food-to-go convenience retailer

The awards were based on the results of a survey of more than 20,000 shoppers across 1,400 stores

The Scotmid Co-operative has been crowned consumers’ favourite food-to-go convenience retailer at the HIM Awards (formerly CTP Awards).

The retailer, which reported a £4.8m trading profit earlier this year, was one of 15 convenience retailers and suppliers presented with awards. The winners are chosen following a survey by retail consultant HIM, which conducts more than 20,000 face-to-face shopper interviews across 1,400 different convenience stores.

This year the awards, first launched in 2003, featured three new categories and Scotmid won food-to-go.

The award is based on a purchase penetration of the food to go shopper & satisfaction ratings in delivering against shopper’s expectations for food and hot drinks to go. Head of format and store development Mike Gordon and food-to-go operations manager Danny Scobie received the award on behalf of the society.

Mr Gordon said: “After investing the time and resource into our food-to-go operation across all our stores, Scotmid is delighted to receive the recognition, particularly because this is a result of customer feedback.”

HIM found that 13 % of all shopping trips into the convenience channel included buying food-to-go – down from 20% in 2014.

According to IGD Retail, the food-to-go market was work £17.4bn in 2017, with sales at convenience stores reaching £2.7bn.
