This year marks an important milestone for the Radstock Co-operative, which celebrates its 150th anniversary. As part of its 10-year growth strategy, the society has been opening new stores in 2018, with its 20th store opened on 5 October.
The official launch featured pupils from Haywood Academy, who cut the ribbon during an opening ceremony. The school received a £250 cheque from the co-op, which aims to build strong links with the local community.
Radstock Co-op chief executive, Don Morris, said: “This is a landmark occasion as we open our 20th store in our 150th anniversary year. We have grown rapidly in recent years with five new store openings in just under 20 months.
“This is our second store in Weston-super-Mare expanding our trading area and strengthening the Co-op in North Somerset. We are making our presence known as a customer focused, ethical retailer with strong links to local communities.”

In May the society announced it planned to redevelop its town centre Radco superstore.
Radstock Co-op was set up in March 1868. In addition to the 20 convenience stores, its portfolio includes a large supermarket with a non-food offering, food hall and travel agency and a 1,000-acre dairy farm.
Earlier this month the co-op was shortlisted as a final of the Somerset Business Awards in the Business of the Year category for 50+ employees. The winners will be announced on 19 October.
