Bristol Energy Co-op is among the winners at the recent Green Energy Awards, hosted by Regen.
Regen says the awards are “a leading national celebration of the pioneering companies and inspiring people transforming the UK’s energy system”.
Out of more than 100 entries submitted this year by companies, communities and individuals across the UK, 29 were shortlisted for their efforts.
Bristol Energy Co-op won the award for best community energy initiative, which “recognises the role of inspiring community energy groups across the UK supporting the transition to a more democratic and decentralised energy system”.
Regen says its project with the Bristol Beacon “is a rare example of a partnership between a community-owned renewable energy developer and a building contractor. Thanks to its community-funded approach, Bristol Energy Cooperative was able to install 348 solar panels on the roof of the Bristol Beacon – four times more than originally planned.”
Celebrating the award on X, Bristol Energy Co-op said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have won the Community Energy Initiative Award!
“So many inspiring people and organisations under one roof, a huge shout out to everyone working to create a cleaner and fairer energy system.”
