Texas Electric Co-operatives has formed an alliance with Comanche Electric Cooperative (CECA), one of North Central Texas’ top electric co-ops.
The agreement brings approximately 5,000 miles of line and more than 16,000 meters in seven counties into areas already served by TEC alliance partnerships.
“This is an important alliance for TEC,” said Johnny Andrews, chief operating officer of TEC Manufacturing & Distribution Services.
“Comanche Electric Cooperative is a vital part of the infrastructure serving North Central Texans. We are eager to work with them as they deliver power to their members.”
Alan Lesley, general manager of CECA, said: “Comanche Electric Cooperative is built on the power of the co-operative. Through the alliance partnership with TEC, we look forward to taking the power of the cooperative to the next level for our members.”
TEC now has 22 alliance partnerships, developed to strengthen the co-op sector in a competitive market; the previous alliance, with Greenbelt Electric Co-operative, was formed in October.
“Every new alliance strengthens and improves our negotiating power,” Andrews said. “It’s good for individual co-operatives, and it’s good for Texas cooperatives as a whole.”
TEC provides members with many services, but says the alliance supply model is especially notable because it immediately reduces operational and redundant costs, benefiting each co-ops’ bottom line.
The partnerships also mean it can leveraging aggregation and scale to obtain high-quality products from leading manufacturers at competitive prices.
“TEC is proud to be able to pass those savings on to its member co-operatives,” it added.
Texas Electric Cooperatives, formed in 1941, represents the interests of 75 electric co-ops with more than 3 million members, and offers a full line of utility supplies and services from its base in Georgetown.
