Chelmsford Star Co-operative hosted a free evening of networking and presentations for charities and community groups at its Quadrant department store.
The event, on 7 February, brought in four industry experts to offer their advice to guests including Chelmsford’s mayor Patricia Hughes.
Advice was given on the day-to-day running of an organisation, including social media tips, making the most of local radio, getting your group in the paper and available grants for local groups.
Kevin Bennett, head of membership & marketing at the society, said: “We support over 350 groups with their fund-raising as part of our everyday business, thanks to our Community Card initiative.
“The event was designed to provide essential tips to assist these groups, as well as offer a networking opportunity between like-minded people.”
Guests included representatives from schools, charities, sports groups, churches, and came from as far afield as Braintree and Tilbury.
Alison Motley, from local group Wastebusters, said: “We found the evening very useful; interesting speakers and a great mix of organisations represented.”
Chelmsford Star is planning another event on 30 November.
