The Co-op Group opens its newest food store in Harlow on Friday (17 July) and says its £600,000 investment will create 14 new jobs.
The purpose-built store, at the Newhall Neighbourhood Centre, runs on 100% renewable electricity and opens between 7am-10pm daily. It includes a free ATM, bakery, hot food and Costa coffee, alongside a focus on fresh, heathy produce, award winning wines, ready meals and pizzas, free-from and vegan products, Fairtrade, food-to-go and, everyday essentials.
Contactless card payment limits have been increased to £45, making it easier, quicker and safer to shop. The Group also provides a funding boost locally and gives back to causes in the area through its membership scheme, where members receive a 5% reward on purchases of own brand products, and the retailer donates a further 1% to community causes.
The store is also looking for a local not-for-profit organisation to partner with its Food Share scheme, which is designed to not only minimise food waste but also to share food with those in need in the community, helping to alleviate food poverty and hunger.
The Group added that its Community Shopping Card makes it easier for those self-isolating or who have been instructed to stay at home to shop and pay for their essentials. Cards can be purchased or topped up by calling 0800 029 4592, enabling friends, families or volunteers to shop on their behalf in store.
Store manager Amy Ryan said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to make such a significant investment, and the team is really looking forward to serving the community.”
