Co-op surprises mum with special Mother’s Day present

The Co-op Group has launched a Mother’s Day ad campaign encouraging people to plan the perfect day for their mothers.

The retailer has conducted a series of street interviews asking Londoners how they planned to celebrate with their mothers.

The winning answer came from 53-year old Emma, who received support from the Co-op to convert old family movies she had found in her parents’ loft into digital format.

“My dad now has Parkinson’s so it’s quite difficult for them to get out,” she said. “It would be quite nice to bring the cinema to them.”

Her mother, June Sterland, 85, from West Hill, Epsom, received the red carpet treatment, with her front room converted into a cinema.

A video released by the retailer shows Emma searching the loft for old family films, visiting a film specialist, and the grand finale of turning her mum’s front room into a cinema and gathering the family together for the special showing.

Jemima Bird, customer director at the Co-op, said: “We were so inspired by Emma’s story and really wanted to work with the family to digitise decades-old forgotten family footage. It was such a moving and thoughtful idea and knew this would really make their mum’s day extra special.

“We also know that what mums really care about is spending quality time with their family and food plays such an important role in this. Co-op has both quality products available conveniently to really make Mother’s Day personal for every mum.”
