Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) has been given a £3.4m government grant to help create 99 new homes in its area.
RBH, a housing mutual co-owned by tenants and employees, will use the money to provide two and three bedroom family houses across the borough.
These will include 60 ‘rent to buy’ homes supporting regeneration in Smallbridge and Lower Falinge together with 39 shared ownership homes in Middleton and Pennines.
It will bring the number of new mutual homes built by RBH to 278. Since becoming a mutual housing society in 2013, RBH has completed 133 new homes for rent across the borough, with a further 46 ready to start or under construction.
The grant comes from the Homes and Communities Agency under the Shared Ownership and Affordable Homes Programme for 2016 to 2021.
Clare Tostevin, RBH director of communities, said: “This additional funding is great news and will not only help deliver new homes but also support local jobs and apprenticeships.
“The new homes we have built over the past five years are greatly valued by local communities, and this new grant will support our plans to provide further new high-quality homes across Rochdale borough and offer new affordable options for those who would like to own their home.”
