International Credit Union Day falls on 18 October this year, taking the theme Find your Platinum Lining to mark the event’s 70th anniversary.
Brian Branch, president and chief executive of the World Council of Credit Unions (Woccu), said: “This year we are celebrating 70 years of ICU Day and we celebrate that our global movement historically goes back much further, enriching the lives of many over the years.
“ICU Day is the opportunity to engage credit union members, share their experiences and celebrate with the growing global credit union community.”
To help credit unions mark the day, Woccu has released ICU Day logos and posters in English and Spanish, as well as celebration ideas and other tips to create unique member experiences. Members and employees are encouraged to share photos and experiences on social media using the hashtag #ICUDay.
In previous years, credit unions have hosted fundraising events, opening houses, holding contests, organising parades and other activities.
The USA’s Credit Union National Association (Cuna), said: “The credit union movement is steeped in a rich history of collaboration across divides. For nearly two centuries, financial co-operatives have encouraged people of every race, gender and belief to come together and give their all towards the betterment of their communities.
“It’s about people helping people. That’s why credit unions always offer a platinum lining.
“This year, we’re celebrating International Credit Union Day’s platinum anniversary, a chance to look back after 70 years and be thankful for the lives and communities that have been improved by the unique principles and actions of our movement.”
Cuna also offers promotional resources for credit unions wishing to mark the day.
