Co-op Funeralcare colleague Shane Kybett has received an award from the Sussex Police for saving the lives of two people.
Mr Kybett, who also works as a response security worker, was patrolling the beach when he found a woman who intended to walk into the sea while fully dressed. Realising she was distressed, he tried to convince her to come out of the water and stayed with her until police and ambulance arrived.
Later that evening, he came found another woman collapsed in the street and resuscitated her before the emergency services arrived and brought her back to life.
In recognition of his actionshe was selected by the Divisional Commander to receive the Life Saving Intervention Award at this year’s Brighton and Hove Divisional Police Awards.
Mr Kybett, a member of the funeral service crew at Co-op Funeralcare, said: “I am truly touched and honoured to have been nominated for such a meaningful award. In my eyes, I was just doing what anyone else would have done in the same situation.”
He was among 60 other volunteers, police officers and members of the public who received awards at the ceremony, which aimed to recognise courage and bravery in the community.
The accolade was presented by divisional chief superintendent Lisa Bell during a ceremony at the British Airways i360 Tower on 8 February.
Chief Supt Lisa Bell said: “The awards were a chance to see the breadth of policing and active citizenship across the city and recognise those people, such as Shane, who have gone above and beyond what is expected. It is the tireless and selfless efforts of those who have been recognised that keeps our communities in Brighton and Hove safe and secures the trust and confidence of the public.”
