Lincolnshire Co-operative Society is preparing to open a community hub in one of its stores as part of a £1.2million project.
The centre, in the market town Holbeach, will include a post office, library and pharmacy.
Holbeach Post Office and the society’s pharmacy branch are both moving from their bases on the High Street to the Fleet Street store, where they will open next month.
The post office closes in its old location on 11 February and opens at the store at 1pm on Monday, 13 February. It will then be open from Monday to Saturday, 9am-5.30pm, and will have three serving positions.
Wayne Dennett, Post Office group manager for Lincolnshire Co-op, said: “We are delighted to soon be welcoming customers to our Holbeach store as part of our major project to create a hub of community facilities around our food store.
“As a convenience store operator we are always looking for ways to make life easier for our customers and to provide an excellent service for the local community. This is an exciting project that will really benefit the community.”
The society is looking for volunteers to staff the community library, which also opens on 13 February and will offer 4,000 books and children’s play area.
Volunteer co-ordinator Rachel Ashmore said: “Volunteering at our library is a great way to meet people and develop new skills. We’re keen to hear from enthusiastic people in Holbeach and the surrounding area who could spare a couple of hours a week to give back to their community.
“This is even an ideal chance for sixth formers looking to add experience in a working environment to their CV.”
Full training will be provided and volunteers will also have the support of Lincolnshire County Council’s customer care centre via a dedicated phone line.
The society is also refurbishing a filling station and food store on Carholme Road, Lincoln. The final phase of work has been started on the £750,000 project at Winning Post Filling Station, with a new extension and the addition of pharmacy services.
