The Co-op Group has announced the appointment of Matt Atkinson as its chief membership officer.
He will be responsible for membership, digital, data, brand marketing, communications and community, and campaigning.
Mr Atkinson has been chief membership officer at SAGA, where he focused on transforming the brand into a digital organisation, attracting new customers and entering new markets.
Prior to joining SAGA, he held senior marketing and digital roles at Tesco, P&G and various global media agencies.
The Group’s chief executive, Steve Murrells, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Matt to our Co-op to help us on our journey to become the most-loved membership business in the UK.
“Our new Membership is now a year old and in the first half of our financial year paid back £35m to members and their local communities. Matt’s experience and expertise will build on this, making Membership even more compelling and returning our Co-op to a campaigning movement.”
Mr Atkins will be working with the Co-op over the next couple of weeks and officially start his full-time role in January.
