New data platform will map international co-operative development projects

The platform will feature information from 35 co-operative development organisations (CDOs)

The US Overseas Cooperative Development Council (OCDC) and the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) are launching an online data platform to showcase international projects run by co-operative development organisations (CDOs).

The platform will feature information from 35 CDOs for international co-operative development, including members of the ICA Development Platform (ICADP), a committee of the ICA which brings together 31 co-operative organisations active in international development.

OCDC executive director Paul Hazen said: “The data collected will document the impact of co-operatives in sustainable development and the role co-operatives play in enhancing food security, gender equality, climate change solutions and job creation. The partnership between OCDC and ICA will showcase the scale at which co-operatives are addressing these important issues, providing leadership around the world.”

ICA director general Bruno Roelants said: “This new online data platform will support our strategy on evidence-based policy planning for sustainable development. It will serve as a great resource of information but also as reference on the impact of CDOs in implementing development programs across the world. It is a step forward on monitoring international cooperative development.

“This partnership with our longstanding member OCDC scales-up our continuous efforts in promoting the comparative advantages of co-operatives in tackling global and local challenges.”

The project aims to enhance collaboration between CDOs and donors. The online data platform will be completed in 2022 and will be available via the ICA and OCDC websites.
