New members, app and chief executive for NHS Credit Union

‘The success of the app and the Fife campaign certainly shows we are moving in the right direction’

The NHS Credit Union (NHS CU) has seen an increase in membership of more than 60% thanks to a successful recruitment campaign in Fife.

The news comes alongside the launch of a new mobile banking app and the appointment of a new chief executive.

Supported by public service union Unison and the internal communications team at NHS Fife, the membership drive saw the NHS CU team make site visits to hospitals and health centres in the Fife area. The recruitment campaign has resulted in a 63.2% growth in membership in just five weeks. The total number of members of the entire credit union now exceeds 18,000.

And the credit union’s new mobile banking app, which recently began being rolled out to members, now has 2,000 regular users.

Ruth Dorman takes over as CEO

Alongside this activity, NHS CU also welcomed a new chief executive, as Ruth Dorman took over from Robert Kelly, now chief executive of the Association of British Credit Unions (Abcul).

Ms Dorman said: “I knew I was joining a successful organisation and the success of the app and the Fife campaign certainly shows we are moving in the right direction. I look forward to welcoming more members into our financial family and continuing to help care for the financial welfare of NHS staff from Shetland to Sheffield.

“I firmly believe that working together at a strategic level we can contribute to the discussion and the influence that credit unions bring to the strategic development and direction of financial services and poverty reduction in Scotland and beyond. Working together, we can exert a positive influence on the direction of travel and shape of the future for members, and in turn, broader communities.”
