Ontario’s Kindred Credit Union joins global ethical banking group

‘Becoming a member of the GABV is yet another example of our commitment to inspiring peaceful, just, and prosperous communities’

Member-owned Kindred Credit Union, based in Kitchener, Ontario, has been accepted as a member of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV).

The GABV, founded in 2009, is an independent network of banks, banking co-ops and credit unions which use finance to deliver sustainable economic, social, and environmental development. It comprises more than 40 financial institutions and seven strategic partners around the world.

“Becoming a member of the GABV is yet another example of our commitment to inspiring peaceful, just, and prosperous communities,” said Kindred’s chief executive Brent Zorgdrager. “Kindred was invited to join four other member financial institutions in Canada working to help individuals fulfil their potential and build stronger communities.”

In a statement, Kindred said it was “excited to join in the global movement helping to ensure that banking is a healthy and productive system and to develop a positive, viable alternative to the current banking system”.

Kindred, which is also a certified BCorporation – which sets rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency – says its “values-centred approach is woven into everything we do and makes us the one-of-a-kind choice for people across Ontario who want to connect their values and faith with their finances”.

The credit union has eight full-service branches and online banking platform, offering a complete range of banking, borrowing, and investing products and services.
