The Co-operative Party is celebrating its largest number of Welsh Assembly ministers, following a reshuffle earlier this month.

First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones announced a change of his cabinet team following which the highest number of Labour/Co-op AMs joined his ministerial team.

Jeremy Miles, AM for Neath joined the Welsh Government as Counsel General Designate. He is also chair of the Co-operative Assembly group and the Cross-Party Group on Co-operatives and Mutuals.

Alun Davies was also appointed as Cabinet Secretary for Local Government and Public Services while Rebecca Evans became minister for Housing and Regeneration. AM Vaughan Gething stayed in his role of Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services with AM Huw Irranca-Davies joining as minister for Children and Social Care.

In addition, Co-op Party member AM Julie James was also appointed the leader of the House and Chief Whip.

Announcing the re-shuffle First Minister said: “I am proud to announce my new ministerial team, which provides a balance of experience and stability, with new drive and energy. This strong team will drive forward our ambitious plans for Wales – focusing on growing the Welsh economy, creating jobs, supporting our public services and improving the day-to-day lives of the people of Wales.”

“The reshuffle shows the strong and growing influence of co-operators in Wales, now seen not only in the Welsh Government but across the spectrum of political engagement from Westminster to our local government leaders and Police & Crime Commissioners,” wrote Karen Wilkie, deputy general secretary of the Co-operative Party.
