The Scottish Agricultural Organisation Society (SAOS) is looking for contenders for its Next Generation Award, for young people involved in agricultural co-ops who have shown leadership, vision and commitment to co-operation.
Nominees must be under 40 and be an employee, farmer member or director of a co-op. SAOS is particularly looking for individuals who have brought innovation to their co-op, gone beyond what would be expected in their job at this stage of their career, and have promoted the work of the co-op either internally or externally.
The 2017 winner was Kate Drever, who has since been appointed as general manager of Aberdeen Grain, where she has worked since 2012. Through her lab work she provided feedback to farmers to help them improve their harvest.
Stephen Young, project manager at SAOS, said: “The Next Generation Award presents a great opportunity to give well-deserved recognition to a young person leading the way in industry. I’d encourage members to put forward nominations for someone they believe deserves this award.”
Nominations can be made by fellow members, managers or directors of co-ops.
A panel of judges made of SAOS directors and staff will examine the nominations. The winner will be announced at their annual conference in January 2019.
More information on the Award is available on the SAOS website. Nominations must include details of how the nominee has made an exceptional contribution in their field. These can be set to [email protected].
