Scotmid Co-operative recognised at Scottish Grocer Awards

The awards highlight the best of Scottish convenience retailing

Scotmid Co-op won two accolades at the 2019 annual Scottish Grocer Awards in Glasgow on 7 March.

The retailer’s Clarkston store, managed by David Dick, was crowned Bakery Retailer of the Year while Scotmid Ratho Station store, managed by Fiona McFadyen, won Food to Go store of the Year.

The awards are given by Scottish Grocer, which covers the country’s convenience retail sector.

The Clarkston store was praised for its “well-merchandised range of wrapped bread complete with a broad selection of sandwich alternatives” complemented by “an eye-catching bakery display at the front of store”.

In Edinburgh, the Ratho Station store provides quick bites as well as hot lunches. Judges chose it for “great strides in food to go”, including pies, pizzas and healthier options.

Kevin Plant, head of food at Scotmid, said: “Congratulations to David and Fiona and their respective store teams for these richly deserved awards.

“It is always great to receive recognition and these accolades are testament to the collective diligence, commitment and skill – it has been a real team effort.

“We are proud of the progress that has been made and our aim is to build on that as we head towards our 160-year anniversary later this year.”
