Scotmid Co-operative is introducing evening takeaway menus in five of its stores, as it develops its Food to Go offering.
The takeaway food will be available from 4-9pm seven days a week – and is an extension of Scotmid’s existing Food to Go offer, which currently includes Costa Express, breakfast rolls, hot savouries, local craft bakery and burgers in all stores. Soup, freshly made baguettes, salad bowls and hot chicken are also available in a large number of stores.
Scotmid has partnered with gourmet burger specialists, Big Al’s Burger Bar, to offer customers flame-cooked burgers with brioche buns. They are now available in Kingsknowe in Edinburgh and will be launched in Drumnadrochit in Inverness on 25 September.
The retailer has also linked up with the Pizza Art brand from Rome to offer takeaways to customers in three stores: Carrickknowe in Edinburgh from 12 September; Thornhill in Elgin from 26 September and Polbeth in West Calder from 10 October.
Both partners will provide an extensive menu for customers made fresh to order, as well as the opportunity to personalise orders. The Pizza Art menu will also include a Chicken Tikka pizza, which has been developed in response to customer demand.
Danny Scobie, Food To Go operations manager at Scotmid, said: “In the majority of our stores, 50% of the footfall comes after five o’clock and we know from customer research over the last few years that they are looking for more options around meal solutions.
“With people’s lives becoming increasingly time-poor, it’s important that we offer our customers convenient and quick food on the move, without hindering on quality. Our customers look for premium products that are also great value. The introduction of our burger and pizza takeaways do just that.”
