Members of Cooperativa de Trabajo Renacer – an electrical goods manufacturing co-op in Argentina – have been given the keys to 60 new homes created thanks to regional and national affordable housing initiatives.
The homes, in the Andorra district of Ushuaia, the provincial capital of Tierra del Fuego, were provided for the co-op’s members by the Provincial Housing Institute (IPV) and financed by the Argentinian government’s National Housing Fund (FONAVI), which helps create affordable housing for low-income workers.
Rosana Bertone, governor of Tierra del Fuego province, IVP president Gustavo Vázquez and vice president Fabio Marcelo Escobar attended a ceremony to hand over the keys.
Ms Bertone said: “We are very happy to deliver these keys to the members of this co-operative who make a huge effort to sustain jobs and get ahead every day.
“I am happy for all of you, because today you can start a new stage in your life, in a house of your own that has all the utilities and is the result of the joint work of the state, the local government and the province.”
IVP president Gustavo Vázquez said: “We know that these homes are a dream come true, and seeing the faces of Tierra del Fuego families when they have the key to their house is very satisfying.”
Cooperativa de Trabajo Renacer president, Monica Acosta, said: “It is a very special day, and it’s the culmination of five years of negotiations. It has been a long road and the recipients of these 60 homes have fought hard to keep the factory going and to keep their jobs.”
