Southern Co-op is celebrating the opening of a new store in Weymouth, Dorset, by offering a £1,000 donation to a local charity or community group.
Locals have been given until Friday, 25 August to nominate a good cause for the donation, which will be made at the 1 September opening day of the store, on Chickerell Road.
The winner – which is not restricted to registered charities – will also benefit from a longer-term fundraising partnership with the new store as part of Southern’s Love Your Neighbourhood community engagement scheme.
This initiative, funded by the 5p carrier bag levy, focuses on four key social themes – greener neighbourhoods, healthier neighbourhoods, safer neighbourhood and more inclusive neighbourhoods.
The society’s new store, near Budmouth College and Granby Industrial Estate. will be home to an extensive fresh food offer with a great choice of fresh and chilled foods including fresh meat and fish, pizzas and ready meals.
A food to go selection includes coffee to take away and an in-store bakery offering fresh loaves and pastries fresh.
Southern Co-op says it is committed to British farmers and all the fresh meat it sells is 100 per cent British, including the meat used in sandwiches, snacks and ready meals.
