The learning and development team at the East of England Co-op has been named Team of the Year at the Training Journal Awards.
It competed with more than 260 entrants to take the top title in the category of the awards, hosted on Tuesday in London by athlete Sally Gunnel. The team of five people is responsible for designing and delivering training for more than 4,300 staff across the diverse range of business from food retail to stonemasonry.
The team was also runner up for the Best Organisational Development Programme, receiving a silver award for their leadership training programme.
Stephen Flurrie, head of learning and development at the co-operative, said: “The team are absolutely over the moon to have won this award. Our aim is to reach colleagues with learning that helps them perform better in their jobs, understand the co-op difference and live our co-op values; they do this every single day with creativity, passion and expertise.
“We can’t wait to build on this great success with some innovative and exciting new projects coming up in the next 12 months.”
The development team is also responsible for the society’s apprenticeship scheme, which launched earlier this year following a successful pilot. The apprenticeships are providing employees with the opportunity to move up and move on within the business, helping to develop and retain local talent for the future.
Organised by the Training Journal and now in its 12th year, the TJ Awards recognise the creativity, passion and hard work of learning and development professionals from around the world. This year’s winners also included Greene King, Alzheimer’s Society and Transport for London in partnership with t-three.
