Today’s International Credit Union Day takes the theme “Local Service, Global Reach” as it promotes the movement’s work around the world.
The World Council of Credit Unions has been running a daylong social media promotion of activities and events spanning multiple continents.
It is a celebration of a sector which now has almost 90,000 credit unions across 117 countries in six different continents, and almost 260 million members.
International Credit Union Day is held annually on the third Thursday of October to celebrate the spirit of the global credit union movement. It sees credit unions raise awareness through outreach and volunteering in the community, organising contests, charitable fundraisers and open houses.
“This year’s theme for ICU Day is ‘Local Service. Global Reach.’ What better way to emphasise our role in that effort than to highlight the local service credit unions from around the world are providing to their members and staff?” said Brian Branch, Woccu president/CEO.
Michelle Kamke, marketing projects manager at the US Credit Union National Association, added: “Our member focus means that we continuously strive for higher levels of member service and engagement. Our co-operative values make us stronger together, because when we empower locally, we inspire globally.
“ICU Day is a chance to showcase the meaningful change the movement brings to members worldwide.”
